The man on top of the mountain didn't fall there. -Vince Lombardi

Seems strange that the season has already come to an end, but I have to say it has been fun to infuse a bit more excitement into the spirit of the game and to also have the opportunity to work along side so many nice co-volunteers and of course the kids. I sure hope that Joel gets a big turn out for the next TOUCHDOWN CLUB board meeting where everyones welcome on Nov 9th. Let's fill the room with new faces... I know there's some really exciting things on the agenda to talk about before the break. The Touchdown Club wants to get more parents involved so they too can join in the fun supporting the experience of Newport Football.

And prime example of that was yesterdays ULTIMATE PANCAKE BRUNCH and well, what a show it was and having spent the day with our boy's and taking a harder look at their accomplishments I now realize there is just a lot more to this game of football. So we have talked a lot about how we have grown as a team and an organization over the season, and we talked about the will to win and brotherhood and so on, but today I realized the coaches and these players are more connected way more than we all on the outside looking in might think. It's comforting to know good role models and core values still exist in this world today and truly Coach Oliver and his staff are instilling such goodness into our boy's. Anyway enough of the serious talk let's take about what really happened yesterday. Our boy's climbed another mountain and this was evident by their appetites and by the amount of food they consumed at the Ultimate Pancake Brunch and why not, when you train hard and tirelessly for weeks, why not enjoy and celebrate yourself and your brothers accomplishments. I had a blast with you all this season. I never thought as a stuffed bear I could do so much, I will say it's been fun, stressful at times and tiring for sure. I know you don't need to hear anymore stats but I have a few of my own, thousands of photos, um gallons of perfume rubbed into me, a zillion hugs and acts of kindness but of you might not know, I had acts of violence attempted on me when we traveled this year, there was a kidnapping attempt and theft, my sword was taken, my crown, my props and spirit gear oh my and you all think I am just sitting around doing nothing while you all are watching the game. Well I gotta tell ya as much fun is it is there has been some pretty sketchy moments when I was all alone when we were Home Away from Home in those foreign territories. But I have finished my season on top of the mountain, now I got up here its time to get back down, um Joel, hey Joel come on- can you just for one second stop selling the TOUCHDOWN CLUB and give your buddy bear a hand?

Bigger, better, more!

It was cold and wet but the Knights beat Cedar Crest under the lights on Newport's home turf. What a game. Lot's of action and what a joy to have our Knights walk away with a an end of season victory.
This has been a crazy season full of highs and lows but mostly our boys have shown courage in the heat of battle, they have shown growth throughout the 10 games they played and with every game something new came the following week, and as the season went on attitudes were adjusted, a drive was instilled and the boys just seemed to find a groove...there was a certain strength and creative intelligence and I felt like the football machine got it's oil and we were starting to fire on all cylinders. Every single person who put their heart into this season should be proud. Let's look at the list: Coaches, athletes, statisticians, trainers, announcers, photographers, athletic director and staff, maintenance and custodial services,  countless volunteers, cheer, drill, band and all those behind the scenes in those groups, our incredible die hard student body, moms, dads, grandparents, friends, alumni, our community, restaurants and businesses that have supported us along the way, there are so many people and groups to say great job and thank you to.  I know I am not thinking of everyone, but I know you get the idea- it takes a lot of support in our Knightly Kingdom to pull this off, and we know that as we grow and build on what we did this year we will continue to thrive and only be better next year- bigger, better, more! I can't wait to see what's in store. Lastly thank you Touchdown Club you are a great catalyst to make things happen...Let's Go Newport!!! We are going to build to become better, one game at a time, one event at a time, one fundraiser at a time...let's just all agree, go big or go home!

Ummm did anyone else hear its supposed to snow Monday? Really? Can that be true? Well fine with me I got one more gig on Saturday THE PLAYERS YEAR END BANQUET and this year the Touchdown Clubs hosting - THE ULTIMATE PANCAKE BRUNCH!
I am gonna stuff myself then by Sunday I will laydown and take a break and hibernate for a spell. I don't do snow and its time for a rest, I have some rolls of fat and thick furry coat I am ready for a nap...actually I think everyone needs a lil break, but we will be back, bigger and better than before and ready to bring it and build on BIGGER, BETTER, MORE!

Go Knights

Really the last game of the season?
It sure has been fun hanging out with you all, I mean what a ride this season has been. I have made so many new friends and have had such a good time it seemed like we were bear-ly getting started and now you are telling me the last game is tomorrow night at 6PM at home for that matter against Cedar Crest... Well gee, I suppose it makes sense the boy's have their end of season banquet this coming Saturday...wow how time flies! So okay let me see, um how about we all gather a little bit early, say a half hour before the game, I know let's meet at the Concession Stand, I hear Joel needs to slash prices on some things it being the last game.  Anyway we can grab some snacks and hot coffee or hot chocolate, oh ya! I know the popcorn will be poppin', anyway let's be sure to stop by and say hi to the gang in the stand, they work their tails off for all of us and mostly it's all for the kids. You know I have been thinking, I really have enjoyed hanging out and I have met some wonderful folks. I hope we can get more parents involved, you know it doesn't take much if we all pitch in but it can be a bear if we only have a few parents helping out.
I wanna see more new faces, I promise we have blast, it's not all hard work, but we do have a great time- you know meeting people who have kids playing alongside each other, it only seems like we should be working alongside each other for our kids that playing alongside each other... sheee'sh that was like a tongue twister. Anyway I hope you will all think about joining the booster club and contribute some time for the best booster club around.
The Touchdown Club.
LET'S GO BOY'S, BRING IT TOMORROW NIGHT! LET'S FINISH STRONG!

Go Knights!

Hard work is teamwork

I might just be a bear stuffed with cotton and I know I am cuter than the average bear, but let me tell ya I know a ittle something about holding my own, being there when I am needed and I do my part for my team at the Touchdown Club...and tonight on the last game of the season I felt like the boys had the wind completely knocked out of em... I am not sure what happened exactly, but I felt we just fell short as a team. Yes individuals efforts are fun to watch and we had some great ones tonight and we have had some great individual achievements this season we know who those guys are. But where was the rest of the team tonight? Everything seemed like it was a grind and hard to do...and not much about tonight was what we fans have grown to look forward to, whether we win or lose we know when the band of brothers show up it's a good time for all. I know it's hard to take a loss on the last game of the season.
But to me it's harder knowing not everyone gave 100%...Where were the solid wrap em up tackles, where was the blocking, the accuracy and where was the teamwork- the machine that was tuned by our coaches and held up by self starting individuals who know better to think you can't get it done if you have to go it alone. Let tonight's loss be a reason to make every game matter more, than the last.
Guy's at the very least you owe it to yourself to show up- not just physically, but mentally and with no distractions, you have to have the whole package ready to go at game time, everyone on the same plan to get into the game and make smart plays. And when everyone does, that's what makes a team. And remember no matter what game you are playing,
"Winnings not everything, but wanting to win is"

Senior Knights and a Win!!

And Just like that ..senior night has come and gone...oh and with it our boy's marched on to victory over Inglemoor High School, it was a tough battle but but in the end during the 3rd overtime we came out on top. CHEER, DRILL, BAND and even some middle school bands joined in the halftime fun, our schools staff coaches and all the volunteers did a tremendous job making the seniors feel special. And well not to toot my own horn....but from what I could see, taste, smell and hear Teddy's StadiYUMM EATS! was a success, thanks Lil J's Super Dawgs those are some tasty burgers, dogs and fries and thanks TOUCHDOWN CLUB and all of you're Volunteers who helped out tonight, you know it's just amazing the support we get and what a fun time we have. Last but not least our Seniors, honestly it is an emotional time, but wow I never hugged so many humans and I still see the flash of lights, but mostly after a while, I was feeling a lil' bit misty eyed- I'm gonna hate to see those kids go after graduation this spring, but I know they will move on and do great things. Well it's almost time for the off season, but first JV plays Inglemoor on Monday and Varsity plays their final game next Thursday where we will have a battle on our hands as we take on CedarCrest, both these games are at home and we hope you will all come out and support our KNIGHTS and let's wrap this season up with a roar and some W's.

Go Knights!

Football is Like Life

10/28/2022

With tonight being Senior Night and  Football season nearly coming to a close this year we have much to reflect back on. I could bore you with a long list or just say it really was not an easy year- with having  our Home games away from Home,  those hot dry days that went deep into the fall way longer than normal, not really a bad thing but not a normal thing or what about the stinky, smokey hazordous air conditions and as a team we have had our share of injuries.
Well at the same time we had some super fun times, maybe at times we were doing things a little bit different but we showed a lot of people that we just adapt and persevere as a team and as team mates and as brothers. Just like players our "fan-milies" and really everyone has always rallied around us whether we win or lose...there are no losers in this Kingdom. Being a senior ball player during this time is an emotional roller-coaster,  as most have been in the Newport Football program for some time many came from the youth league and have been working alongside side their brothers and coaches that they have grown to admire and trust,  the coaches that not only coach the game but instill personal growth and motivation and life lessons that has turn young boys into young men from Freshman to Senior...

Woke the Bear!

It was just after that terrible week of smokey air, a haze still hung low in the valley though it was mostly washed by the recent rains and it seemed there was a new bite in the air... and like a bear waking from hibernation rising to get his first meal after a long winters sleep...mmm? Sorry sometimes I get carried away, ok maybe it was not exactly like that...

Well, let me re-phrase using Vince Lombardi's words-
“It's not whether you got knocked down; it's whether you get back up.”
Well Knight fans WE just got up and NOW you got to continue to BELIEVE and you got to be willing to get out to the next game and into the weather, just bundle up, feel the cold air and smell the popcorn. And with all that- Taste some VICTORY!!! Last night the JV Knights did just that, they delivered us another "W" and at Home, on our own Turf,  what a  game, with our awesome Cheer cheering along with all their might, with our student body and family fans and concessions- the snacks, the food, the drinks and yes buckets of toasty buttery popcorn being turned out in what was the test drive of Teddy's StadiYUMM Eats! at the Knight Market! ...and as cold as it was for some of you and I know it was chilly, we still cheered it up and our boy's cranked out a WIN!
FRIDAY'S GAME will be over the top and we will have the all new expanded menu of hot offerings, yes The Newport Knights Concessions sponsored by the Touchdown Club is having a makeover of sorts, so please be the first to enjoy and welcome,
TEDDY'S StadiYUMM Eats!
And you are gonna love it!
So look out Friday Night Inglemoor we're on a roll and when we get the whole machine working like this, all turned up and in sync- we are unstoppable.  Additionally this Friday is super special did you know it's Senior Night? Well we got some serious celebrating to do in honor of our Seniors, so if you are in grade 12 we honor you, we salute you and celebrate all of your accomplishments, all that you have learned and grown to be- for you are the reason why teachers educate, and why we they guided you to be the best citizens in our kingdom, as you have witnessed from Homecoming,  Knights blood runs deep and we are all forever Knights! And we celebrate and honor you!

I mean they will have all this built up energy not exerted this week so let’s bring it! my buddy Smokey says Fall is officially starting tomorrow. The rain is moving in and will clear the air so we all can breathe, we’ll you all not me. Anyways it looks to be a bit wet tomorrow but that is what rain coats are for, so come out and support our boys! We really need the support to beat these islanders! I will keep is short tonight since the smoke really got me down this week but Go Knights!

Let’s bring the Knight pride and get this W!

On Wednesday this week the JV Knights head back on the road just a little trip north to visit the Juanita Ravens. After the Varsity suffered a tough loss in Raven country last week, I know our JV team will be out looking for a solid win. They will play hard, they will play smart and from what I can see they are ready to go! Are you? Will you be out to support our guys? Aside from the great football action we all need to enjoy this weather while we have it because they say the rains are coming back and its going to get wet around here. I sure do hope we represent our team with the big crowd and the best of Knight Nation, the loudest and proudest.
Let's go get that !W!

Go Knights!
