Seems strange that the season has already come to an end, but I have to say it has been fun to infuse a bit more excitement into the spirit of the game and to also have the opportunity to work along side so many nice co-volunteers and of course the kids. I sure hope that Joel gets a big turn out for the next TOUCHDOWN CLUB board meeting where everyones welcome on Nov 9th. Let's fill the room with new faces... I know there's some really exciting things on the agenda to talk about before the break. The Touchdown Club wants to get more parents involved so they too can join in the fun supporting the experience of Newport Football.
And prime example of that was yesterdays ULTIMATE PANCAKE BRUNCH and well, what a show it was and having spent the day with our boy's and taking a harder look at their accomplishments I now realize there is just a lot more to this game of football. So we have talked a lot about how we have grown as a team and an organization over the season, and we talked about the will to win and brotherhood and so on, but today I realized the coaches and these players are more connected way more than we all on the outside looking in might think. It's comforting to know good role models and core values still exist in this world today and truly Coach Oliver and his staff are instilling such goodness into our boy's. Anyway enough of the serious talk let's take about what really happened yesterday. Our boy's climbed another mountain and this was evident by their appetites and by the amount of food they consumed at the Ultimate Pancake Brunch and why not, when you train hard and tirelessly for weeks, why not enjoy and celebrate yourself and your brothers accomplishments. I had a blast with you all this season. I never thought as a stuffed bear I could do so much, I will say it's been fun, stressful at times and tiring for sure. I know you don't need to hear anymore stats but I have a few of my own, thousands of photos, um gallons of perfume rubbed into me, a zillion hugs and acts of kindness but of you might not know, I had acts of violence attempted on me when we traveled this year, there was a kidnapping attempt and theft, my sword was taken, my crown, my props and spirit gear oh my and you all think I am just sitting around doing nothing while you all are watching the game. Well I gotta tell ya as much fun is it is there has been some pretty sketchy moments when I was all alone when we were Home Away from Home in those foreign territories. But I have finished my season on top of the mountain, now I got up here its time to get back down, um Joel, hey Joel come on- can you just for one second stop selling the TOUCHDOWN CLUB and give your buddy bear a hand? It was cold and wet but the Knights beat Cedar Crest under the lights on Newport's home turf. What a game. Lot's of action and what a joy to have our Knights walk away with a an end of season victory.
This has been a crazy season full of highs and lows but mostly our boys have shown courage in the heat of battle, they have shown growth throughout the 10 games they played and with every game something new came the following week, and as the season went on attitudes were adjusted, a drive was instilled and the boys just seemed to find a groove...there was a certain strength and creative intelligence and I felt like the football machine got it's oil and we were starting to fire on all cylinders. Every single person who put their heart into this season should be proud. Let's look at the list: Coaches, athletes, statisticians, trainers, announcers, photographers, athletic director and staff, maintenance and custodial services, countless volunteers, cheer, drill, band and all those behind the scenes in those groups, our incredible die hard student body, moms, dads, grandparents, friends, alumni, our community, restaurants and businesses that have supported us along the way, there are so many people and groups to say great job and thank you to. I know I am not thinking of everyone, but I know you get the idea- it takes a lot of support in our Knightly Kingdom to pull this off, and we know that as we grow and build on what we did this year we will continue to thrive and only be better next year- bigger, better, more! I can't wait to see what's in store. Lastly thank you Touchdown Club you are a great catalyst to make things happen...Let's Go Newport!!! We are going to build to become better, one game at a time, one event at a time, one fundraiser at a time...let's just all agree, go big or go home! Ummm did anyone else hear its supposed to snow Monday? Really? Can that be true? Well fine with me I got one more gig on Saturday THE PLAYERS YEAR END BANQUET and this year the Touchdown Clubs hosting - THE ULTIMATE PANCAKE BRUNCH! I am gonna stuff myself then by Sunday I will laydown and take a break and hibernate for a spell. I don't do snow and its time for a rest, I have some rolls of fat and thick furry coat I am ready for a nap...actually I think everyone needs a lil break, but we will be back, bigger and better than before and ready to bring it and build on BIGGER, BETTER, MORE! Go Knights -TOUCHDOWN TEDDY Really the last game of the season?
It sure has been fun hanging out with you all, I mean what a ride this season has been. I have made so many new friends and have had such a good time it seemed like we were bear-ly getting started and now you are telling me the last game is tomorrow night at 6PM at home for that matter against Cedar Crest... Well gee, I suppose it makes sense the boy's have their end of season banquet this coming Saturday...wow how time flies! So okay let me see, um how about we all gather a little bit early, say a half hour before the game, I know let's meet at the Concession Stand, I hear Joel needs to slash prices on some things it being the last game. Anyway we can grab some snacks and hot coffee or hot chocolate, oh ya! I know the popcorn will be poppin', anyway let's be sure to stop by and say hi to the gang in the stand, they work their tails off for all of us and mostly it's all for the kids. You know I have been thinking, I really have enjoyed hanging out and I have met some wonderful folks. I hope we can get more parents involved, you know it doesn't take much if we all pitch in but it can be a bear if we only have a few parents helping out. I wanna see more new faces, I promise we have blast, it's not all hard work, but we do have a great time- you know meeting people who have kids playing alongside each other, it only seems like we should be working alongside each other for our kids that playing alongside each other... sheee'sh that was like a tongue twister. Anyway I hope you will all think about joining the booster club and contribute some time for the best booster club around. The Touchdown Club. LET'S GO BOY'S, BRING IT TOMORROW NIGHT! LET'S FINISH STRONG! Go Knights! -TOUCHDOWN TEDDY I might just be a bear stuffed with cotton and I know I am cuter than the average bear, but let me tell ya I know a ittle something about holding my own, being there when I am needed and I do my part for my team at the Touchdown Club...and tonight on the last game of the season I felt like the boys had the wind completely knocked out of em... I am not sure what happened exactly, but I felt we just fell short as a team. Yes individuals efforts are fun to watch and we had some great ones tonight and we have had some great individual achievements this season we know who those guys are. But where was the rest of the team tonight? Everything seemed like it was a grind and hard to do...and not much about tonight was what we fans have grown to look forward to, whether we win or lose we know when the band of brothers show up it's a good time for all. I know it's hard to take a loss on the last game of the season.
But to me it's harder knowing not everyone gave 100%...Where were the solid wrap em up tackles, where was the blocking, the accuracy and where was the teamwork- the machine that was tuned by our coaches and held up by self starting individuals who know better to think you can't get it done if you have to go it alone. Let tonight's loss be a reason to make every game matter more, than the last. Guy's at the very least you owe it to yourself to show up- not just physically, but mentally and with no distractions, you have to have the whole package ready to go at game time, everyone on the same plan to get into the game and make smart plays. And when everyone does, that's what makes a team. And remember no matter what game you are playing, "Winnings not everything, but wanting to win is" -Vince Lombardi Go Knights! -TOUCHDOWN TEDDY Hello Knights TOUCHDOWN TEDDY here.
