Pride & Confidence

So KNIGHTS- at any game, be it football, basketball, baseball- any sport really, as you walk on or off the field hold your head high with pride and confidence, win or loose always take the high road...when the game is done, take a good hard look at your opponents face and meet their eyes and smile. What just happened is done...because tomorrow we start onto the next week, and our next game. But sometime in your future that guy that just beat you, could be your teammate some place else or at the very least you will see him again. Treat others how you want to be treated. Yes it's tough to loose but it's harder to disgrace yourself with the inability to shake your opponents hand after a game ...good sportsmanship is a fundamental, you learned it a long time ago and it can never be forgotten, as an athlete it's part of your own self worth, it's money in your bank. Win or loose the smile should be the same. Smiles are hard to read, but a frown says someone kicked your butt tonight. Smile with pride and confidence to start and finish...Tonight was a great game we played hard, we were ahead but there were many penalties and a lot of personal fouls, but there were some outstanding plays on both sides of the ball. Every Knight whether you were on the turf, sidelines or in the stands should feel the pride and confidence as we grow and build our colony of Knight's we are better than a blank stare, we are proud of what we have gained and we are coming back to fight again. Win or loose let's make sure we are good to ourselves and our opponents...take the high road!

Go Knights

Seems like our JV Boy's just took down Hazen and here we are it's time for varsity to take the field tomorrow night... so that means I ask kindly, Joel don't you think it would be nice, maybe even fun to have me along kinda like a good luck bear, I mean you took me to one JV game and well need I say more. Do you think I can join you guy's and travel to the varsity game at Juanita tomorrow night? And then there was...CRICKETS...
Well I get it, I am a big stuffed dopey lookin bear, you got to drag me everywhere, prop me up and well I know you might be a tad jealous of all the attention, kisses, hugs and pictures people want with me and maybe you think I am just a distraction...but you gave me a job and I do what you told me to do...you can't deny the fact that I sat there all dolled up and proped up front and center at that JV game and well look what happened. Maybe I am the difference, I am certainly a lucky charm...and at this moment I am literally 1 and 0...please lemme go!
Regardless if I am there or not
I hope we can have our stands full and our voices heard as we are one smart, good lookin, football passionate and sometimes some of us propped up, U-KNIGHTED football family!

Go Knights!

JUNIOR VARSITY ROLLS OVER THE HAZEN HIGHLANDERS!!!

In what was an exciting game from where I was sitting...( I mean that's pretty much all I can do) our boy's played a terrific game against a team that we beat early in the year by a few points, this time we showed them we can play, on offense we can move the ball, we can convert those 4th downs and we can drive the ball the length of the field and cross the goal line. Defense we tackled for losses, we shut down their run, we stopped the 4th down conversions. We played heads up football, smart teamwork oriented ball and of course we had our action heros in there but you know me, I never name names or tell the score but you know who they are, I just love that our team fired on all cylinders. Like I said, I had so much fun just sitting there, but wow what a game to remember. Dad's and mom's walking along the sidelines moving down and back as the boys advanced the ball. Happy faces and the Kinghts showed good sportsmanship. It was so great and thankfully I got to be there snd see this win first hand. Good job boy's and coaches and all who traveled out to Hazen our Knight's fans are the best. Let's keep the ball moving and let this feeling spread as we head on out to face the Rebels of Juanita this Friday for our Varsity game and next Wednesday for our JV Knight's coming off this big over Hazen...

Go Knights

Red and Gold more smiles more pride and more gratitude filled the Home away from Home stands tonight as our Newport Knights took to the field against Hazen on what was and exciting Homecoming performance. We came up short but you know what?  We had one heck of a good time and we looked good, we really were a well put together package of entertainment tonight. I for one am so proud of our school and everyone who made it to one of the greatest Homecomings ever.
We had very special VIP'S in the stadium tonight the Class of 66 and Class of 67 and I am pretty certain they had a good time, I know we truly did our best to show them Knight blood runs deep and we will always be bound by our knighthood. As far as the actual football game? I am no expert on the game you know I am a Teddy Bear, from where I was sitting, I saw lot's of great downs, I saw us making first downs and I saw the other team punting to us...in my book that's improvement! We made touchdowns, we lead, we had the makings of a truly terrific game, we just ran out of time and we fell short.
Please bear with me... I know of this man named Bear and he said:

Losing doesn’t make me want to quit, it makes me want to FIGHT that much HARDER
–Bear Bryant

So next week we get back to work boy's and let's remember we fall down, we get back up again and we will just fight harder...dig deep let's fight harder and put together a win!
Hey I have got to make a shout out to my boss and his crew, Joel your team rocked the Knights brand like I have never seen before, Bellevue High School never looked so good!
Well I had a blast, met some older folks who played way back in the 60's and I saw some more recent alumni who were equally thrilled by our super Knight party atmosphere that we spread all over Wolverine territory, you know I should also say a big thank you to Bellevue High School as hard as it was for us to use their school, it's got to be just as hard for them to let us use it, anyway a sincere thank you for letting us call your place our home and what a great staff who welcomed us.
Anyway in the end Hazen had the points on the board and we still had one of the best HOCO's ever. And next week we will have to fight and work that much harder when we are away at Juanita taking on the Rebels it should be another fun game, we hope to see you all there.

GO KNIGHTS!

Well the boys had a good practice tonight, the TOUCHDOWN CLUB fed 80 kids after their practice. Thank you, TD CLUB and a special TEDDY thanks to those parents that step up for all the kids it makes my heart go pitter patter with joy knowing the brotherhood is fed well the night before. Hopefully they all get some good rest and are ready for the big game. Now our boys are ready, the TD Clubs ready to blaze some red and gold around the Bellevue High Bowl. I know Cheer and Drill have been working hard and the greatest news of all our marching bands going to be there for the full game. Because I am in the know I hear there are lots of giveaways that light up so red and gold blinking light stuff, rings, bracelets, pompoms; some on sale and some given away. I did see there special Homecoming Pricing across the board...we hope our Alumni have a blast and we hope if you see them you will say hi and welcome home maybe not our actual home but surrounded by Knight love the Knights family is strong and we are going to be  proud and loud and glowing in red and gold. I am looking forward to seeing you all and let's get Rowdy Newport let's kick some butt. Hey Joel I saw some bear snack cookies what the heck? What's that some kinda voodoo cookie thing? How would you like it if I was passing out middle aged dad shaped cookies... oh never mind. I was just kidding. Hey lets go early, we got lots to set up and I wanna make sure everything is just right and lit up. I can't wait to see the wave of red and gold, hey is that possible? Can we do a mini wave in the stands maybe top to bottom or bottom to top...let's try! oh come on  how hard could it be...you could do it, you could make it happen...Joel thanks for being such a good guy...I mean you are really a great yell king and I know the kids love ya maybe not as much as me, but I mean the kids love me...it's totally proven, I don't have to give away anything they just can't wait to get a picture with me. But I do think it is noble of you to do all that you do.

Hey let's looses our voices tomorrow!!! We won't need them again until the next JV game...if ya let me go!

HomeComing 2022 Home Away From home

Well friends here we are HOCO Week...I remember back at the beginning of the season when we all learned this HOME away from HOME deal was looming and we were all like how the heck are we going to do that?  Well the truth is as KNIGHTS we are tough, creative, smart and very resourceful. Now we have had some tough games on the field but I want to remind you as a team and a school we are way bigger than the score on the scoreboard.  For instance we have been thrown some curves and we always overcome logistics and we rally together to make it right and most of all have fun, we put together the best Friday Knights that we can with the resources we have. I hope everyone pulls together this week and shows up and fills the stands in Knight force. As The Touchdown Club we also continue to encourage the parents of any football player to step up, its your time to shine and do what you can to help out. There are always things we need help with and volunteering is a big part of what we do but let me tell ya a little secret, many friendships and camaraderie occurs and it's a blast.  You can really help out by buying up a stack of Car Wash Tickets so we can continue to feed our boys, when 80 hungry football players sit down to eat let me tell ya it's a project to pull together so if you donate time, spend a few bucks at the Knight Market, and please just buy Car Wash Tickets, it all goes to making the experience of Knight Football a bigger and better deal for the kids they see us do good and your kid will appreciate it. But the Touchdown Club does so much more, we giveaway lots of stuff at every home game, we keep prices as low as possible when we sell things, we have to create displays, buy banners, tents, merchandise and so on; it's a lot to do and support...I just want you to know that without the hard work that goes on behind the scenes a lot of this stuff just would not happen, our boosters are the best, but just like coaches ask our players to dig deep we want just a little bit more help and support from you to push us to do better for the kids. We love smiles and fun, yes we love to win to, but as a Teddy Bear my greatest feelings come when I see smiles and hear someone say, that was fun tonight, you might say I was brought on to comfort and bring smiles and have fun through this HOME away from HOME times but let me tell ya its infectious, we work hard and can't wait to work harder. So that having been said, we promise HOCO is going to be fun, don't miss out if you are going to come, come early visit the Knight Market buy some swag and let's get rowdy! Let's rock the bowl at Bellevue High....heck I was there last week for their HOCO along with many of you and really I think our attendance will be much greater and will show our color and school pride.  Let's show Bellevue how NEWPORT parties and let's have a blast! Look out for free giveaways and special HOCO deals throughout the game. Don't forget to snap a pic with me because well you can and should besides what if Joel puts me away after this season you know when we have things all back to normal you just never know...I hope I am around, but who knows. So snap a pic, pick up some beads or Knight gear, you know at the market the prices are fair and there are lots of great market deals and remember every penny goes back to the kids whether we give things away to the student body or let me remind ya one more time again our football playing Knights, well they can eat. Parents please step up make that donation of time or money we need to keep the momentum going it's time to spread the word THE TOUCHDOWN CLUBS ready to share some joy and have some HOCO FUN!

Rise Up!

The Newport Kights fought the Bellevue Wolverines on their home turf. With their stands filled to 3/4 capacity. The Bellevue Wolverines celebrated their Homecoming as they rolled over the Knights.
This is a typically strong Wolverine team lead by a fast paced driving offense. The Knights fought hard and did manage a few spectacular touchdowns, one 99 yard kick off return by Jonny Alcombrack and beautifully thrown long bomb from Cole Oliver to Cortez Fields.
You know I felt the joy of a win come over me as those to plays happend, we got some tough guys but more importantly we have a lot of heart we dug deep and we got a few scores in, but in the end our boys climbed a mountain to get to the fence to let us say thank-you, good job, stay tough!

"The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall."  - Vince Lombardi

Joel you there? Hey can you hear me? I was wondering why was Bellevue's stands not full tonight? We had an awesome showing on our side of the field, I mean it was their homecoming. I know you got some neat stuff planned and some free giveaways and stuff, I know our Home away from Home Homecoming will be a blast. Tonight I heard they had some alumni guys return from the 80's, I hear we got our first football team showing up the 66-67 season now that's cool, do you think you can hook me up so I can get my picture taken with them?

Practice Makes Perfect

Junior Varsity falls to 2 and 2 with a loss at Liberty tonight under smokey conditions under the lights.
It was a tough loss. One has to think is Liberty that good?  Or were we not prepared after last weeks late week game due to postponed Wednesday night game being played late in the week on a Thursday then a Friday Varsity Game where JV Defensive Coach stepped in to cover for their Defensive coach....Anyway seems like a lot going one in a very short time and it  seems like some more practice would have benefited our boys tonight...just sayin. I am no expert I am a bear,  but it seems one practice is not enough for any team going up against a team with a full week of practice.

Well I must say, I was super impressed with the turnout in our side of the field tonight we had the support in the stands and if anything our boosters, friends and family came out in force and they always seem to have a good time.

One of the the brightest spots at the game tonight was JV Cheer, wow they packed a punch and were chanting, cheering, clapping and  twisting in every direction. The athleticism is spellbinding, honestly my body hurts all over just from watching them. They must rehearse those routines over and over, practice makes perfect...Our Newport Cheer Rocks!

Well we have to pick up the pieces and get back on track we are better than we played tonight.  Honestly parts of tonight were just unbearable...there I said it, I found a way to slip in a bear pun...Anyway I am tried, late in the game the smoke really was getting thick I could barely see...
GO KNIGHTS!

Winning is not a sometime thing..

Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all time thing. You don't win once in a while, you don't do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.
-Vince Lombardi-

THE TOUCHDOWN CLUB took care of us again looking like we belonged in a territory that was not ours.
The Knight Market is ours and we own it, where ever we are, we will own that as our own...we will only expand and make it even bigger and better. Tonight I asked myself did I do everything I could to make tonight the best I could with what I had to work with. Look I am a stuffed bear, I have sticks in places propping me up on a stool, I was affectionately wrapped in glowing LED lighted gear so I could put smiles on people's faces, What humiliated? Maybe a lil' but I know I did my job-  I absolutely did, my very first group of posing cuddlers was the entire cheer team from Liberty...for a moment I thought I scored the winning touchdown, everyone was so happy to see me, to click pics with me, can you imagine any other place where the entire cheer squad from another team stops to get a picture with a mascot or anyone dressed in home team gear... this only happens at a Home away from Home game. Look I did my job, Joel my boss from the Touchdown Club said, sit on the stool, let anyone, I mean anyone have a picture with you. Well you know it took some discipline, but I liked it and its my job to be a mascot for the Touchdown Club, so it's not hard to do, but it's tiring being messed with all night and you know I do what I am told and we have fun, the point is everyone has fun. I saw our President Joel and Vice President Julia tossing free glowing necklaces and beads to the student body. I know we fed our friends at Cheer, and we fed all the players after the game, so we did our job...the common thread here is we have fun, we have made friendships within our club that will last a lifetime, it won't stop after the next 4 years of high school, we did our job. Our reach is strong because we have stepped up to the challenge to make our games feel great and we make home be home no matter where it is. So I ask you what's missing here.  I know it's not: Cheer, they work so hard and smile and cheer our team on keeping us happy when times are tough and it's always onward with spirit intact they did their job. Marching band, brought their first fully choreographed show with all the musical talent, excitement and regalia, they did their job. The Student body was bigger than ever and the parents showed up in force. They did their job. I want to know if anyone else knows what's missing...why do I feel so glum and heartbroken. I ask the question, did we all do our job?

Joel as you know sometimes after the game I lay down in the bed of the truck and I put my tired paws up and have a rest, and you know- air out.

Joel what were you thinking not checking the bed of the truck before visiting my friend Brown Bear...did you forget about me again? It felt like a hurricane of a speed wash, I was all soapy, suds in my eyes and my fur is all curly, all I can say is I am so glad you did not add the wax.
I have to say it was exhilarating and now I feel fresh...I am gonna be sore tomorrow. But again, I did my Job!

Forgive me for this plug.

Make it a habit, wash your car or a friends car! If you have not got your Brown Bear Car Wash Tickets they are going fast, you will not be disappointed.

Home at Home with a win!

Pizza for the parents and both Varsity and Junior Varsity had a celebration feast after the Knights held on to our lead as they downed those Kangaroos who came out to fight.
Things went up and down for the Lake Washington Kangaroos tonight, mostly down but they had some bright spots, but in the end they came up short as they were no match for our Gallant Knights. The Knights have a great big heart, courage and undeniable drive that's what I'm talking about there were some terrific passes and long runs and we just beat em!  You see it's much like  The Touchdown Club who loves to feed our boys and why not share a lil pizza with some parents. Tonight on our home turf we held a good crowd through an action packed football game. Students, parents and our Varsity Boys showing support makes it feel like the Knight Football Family is building. But on and off the field behind the scenes there's a spirit that's thicker than that sauce on the pizza tonight oh and by the way those were some tasty slices for sure. Thank you for all you do Volunteers and thank you to my boss man Joel and the entire Touchdown Club.  Let's not let this spirit go. Rally people LET'S RALLY!
Last week at Sammamish the Touchdown Club introduced us to some new items at the Knight Market. Tomorrow at Bellevue High school where Varsity Football is away for another- Home away from Home game, we have more new items in store, its time to show your Spirit in Light, yep you heard that right, let's glow bright with our new line of colorful LED pom pomes, bracelets and necklaces, they are FAN-tastic something you hang onto and use the rest of the season. Bright colorful LED SPIRIT GEAR! Also I heard we got Hot Popcorn!!! The good stuff, let's go people! Let's snack, cheer and shine onward to victory.
Joel did you get me some of that gear? Don't you think it would be cool for me to be all decked out in lights and just hang out for pictures? I am ready, come on Joel, let's go!
You know I'm ready to shine!
Go KNIGHTS!!!
